My Year of Thanksgiving ~

This week I've been thankful for the lovely aroma and flavor of the Honeybell tangerine I had with my breakfast; for the bargain price I found for a European bird guide-book; for the refund of some grocery sales-tax dollars.
. . . for an almost immediate source of hot water from the tap (what a blessing not to have to deal with buckets and wash-tubs for a bath!); for the snow outside, reminding me always of the promise to make my life "white as snow" (Isaiah 1:18); and for the call to fast.  I don't know just how or why fasting makes prayer more effective, but in Matthew 17:21 there is a clear inference of this in words from Jesus.
. . . that the temperature this morning is not as cold as was forecast; for the pleasure I find in my morning libation of fresh lemon juice and hot water; enjoying life's small everyday blessings.
. . . for warmth and shelter; for Dorothy Eaton Watts' little book, Prayer Country, which is filled with suggestions for enriching one's prayer life; for Bible promises and answered prayers.
. . . for the multitude of daily gifts outlined in the 103rd psalm; for sunshine on a very cold day; for the ability to bring "sunshine" to the lives of others with a smile, a kindness, or a friendly word.
. . . for another day of life; for my mechanical servant - the washing machine (one of my deepest concerns as I was making preparation for a teaching position in China was "Will I need to doing laundry by hand?); so thankful to see daylight hours increasing.
. . . for new snow, watering the thirsty ground; for moderating temps; for fresh, warm, soft bed-linens (love the heating pad that warms my feet in the winter!).
