Thanksgiving II ~
1-7 November: This week I have been thankful for the towering Horse-chestnut Tree all golden outside my window - a
glorious sight to behold; for the thirty or so fliers D.D. was able to
share as trick'r'treaters received their holiday goodies; for this counsel from Romans 12:21: "Do not be overcome by
evil, but overcome evil with good"; for early rising and the gladness that fills my heart as the day
begins; for warm water so readily available from the tap - so many must
carry water and heat it for that blessing; for these words from I John
5:14: "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask
anything according to His will, He hears us"; for the refund of a portion of the amount I paid for my air-ambulance
ride to Boise two years ago - what a surprise! Thankful, too, for
scattered clouds in a blue sky (and lots of sunshine); and for these
words from Psalm 124:6-8: "Blessed be the Lord. . . . Our soul has
escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken,
and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made
heaven and earth"; for "my" four-footed friends - they all seem to see my room as a haven,
a place to snooze, or as an observation post; for breakfast awaiting -
my go-to standards for the week, oats, fruit, and juice; and for these
words from Psalm 119:18: "Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law"; for the "new" view from my window as the big leaves fall from the tree
that provides shade from the summer morning sun; for the catalogs that give
access to items we'll need for a different kind of winter up here on the
prairie (and all the ways goods can be delivered); and thankful for this
precious assurance from Psalm 126:5,6: "Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. One who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed
for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing . . .
sheaves with him"; that the snowfall Thursday was only a BRIEF foretaste of winter
weather; for an electric dryer to avoid the "freeze-drying" endured
years ago on clotheslines outside; and for this ". . . exceeding great
and precious promise. . . ." from the Word: ". . . If I go and prepare a
place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I
am, there you may be also" (John 14:3); and to celebrate again the Creator's memorial of earth's beginnings
(and the blessing of our purposeful existence); for the reality of His
protection from the evil that may be invisible but is very real; and for
these words from Ezekiel 20:12: "Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths,
to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the
Lord who sanctifies them".
