In a time when many are reviewing gift lists, I'm thankful for the unspeakably rich gift that is the sole reason for this season of joy - Jesus, Lamb of God, Savior of this world. I'm thankful for the gifts of friendship (I'm still glowing with the warmth of yesterday's gathering with dear friends) and of music. I was doubly blest last evening with the Christmas concert live-streamed from SacCentral - doubly blest because it seemed that the sound was not up to par through the early program, but had been corrected for the repeat performance later that evening!
Thanking God this morning for ways He's showing the truth of Isaiah 54:5; for His everyday provision for my needs, His steadfast love.
. . . for growing things - for restful greens of variegate foliage, for the promise of color in the sprouting amaryllis, for a place where I can be of service in my community.
. . . For helping me to recall the words needed to find the Scripture passage for which I was looking, for assurance of steadfast His love, for enough - and to share.
. . . For deliverance stories - Noah Genesis 6:5-8, ch. 7:7-10; Abraham Genesis 12:11-20, ch. 20; Isaac Genesis 22:1-13; the Children of Israel Exodus 12:29-37 (the whole story begins in ch.7:1); Elisha 2 Kings 6:15-17 - stories given to increase faith in our hearts; for hard places in my life that have developed faith and trust in my Father's love, in His power to save.
. . . For reminding me that I need a gift for my secret sister; for encouraging me to keep searching when, at first, disappointed; for the sure knowledge that winter's darkness isn't a forever thing.
. . . For the blessing of Sabbath, 24 hours of freedom from everyday concerns, time to turn my thoughts to relationships vertical (with God) and horizontal (with family, friends, and neighbors - Luke 10:27-37); for promises and affirmations in Scripture; and for its "instruction in righteousness" 2 Timothy 3:16 (". . . teaches us to do what is right" New Living Translation).
