Philippians 1:6 (Message) There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears.
What is the great work which God has started? It can be only the work of producing holiness, bringing about our sanctification. Our loving heavenly Father longs for His children to be confident in His steadfast affection and mercy for us; to be sure that His purpose is that we become all that He dreams for us to be. To this end He ". . . has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV).
Because of His great love for us, we can ". . . come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16, NKJV). He reminds us that He is the One whose work it is to change us, to make us holy (Hebrews 2:11, Ezekiel 37:28, ch. 20:12).
O Father God, I hear Your Shepherd's call to my heart. You know all the innermost parts of my being, yet You claim me as Your own. I cannot run from You, for You are my Creator, my Healer, my Hope! Therefore I choose to stumble toward the sound of Your voice, to seek wholeness in Your great mercy ~
