6-12 August: In the past week, I was thankful for the conviction that God's law is an eternal transcript of His character and is a description of His people, rather than a list of "can'ts"; thankful for the message of Jesus that tells us how to show our love for Him; thankful that the apostle, John, recorded that message again and again (John 14:15; ch.15:10; 1 John 5:3); thankful as I anticipated youngest D.D. and her husband coming to visit; thankful for continuing ability to perform some of the activities of daily living that allow a degree of independence; thankful as I considered this passage from Isaiah 33:22 where it is written: "... The Lord is our Judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our King. He will save us." (Holman's Christian Standard Bible); thankful to discover this factoid: The Batchelors of Science Nursing (BSN) degree has been chosen as the toughest degree among all undergraduate degrees by the Guinness Book . . . . - I was thankful to have completed mine; thankful for the three times that I was a "late entry" (the LPNs, ADNs, AND BSN) after a class was registered but a spot became available for me; and thankful for these words: "The Lord is pleased with his people, and he gives victory to those who are humble. All of you faithful people, praise our glorious Lord! Celebrate and worship" Psalm 149:4-5 (Contemporary English Version); thankful for straight counsel from the Word - I was reading the lesson and found four passages that were the perfect response to a question that came up earlier in the day; thankful to be confident of the love God has for all His children (me, TOO!); thankful for this precious assurance from Luke 12:6-7: "Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins [Gr assarion, a Roman coin equal to a 16th of a denarius (the denarius was counted as a day’s wages for an unskilled worker)]? Yet not one of them has [ever] been forgotten in the presence of God. Indeed the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid; you are far more valuable than many sparrows" (Amplified Bible); thankful for the prayer circles we can make among our families and friends to pray for each other - as well as following the counsel of Jesus to pray for those who don't have our best interests at heart; thankful for God's blessings that are poured out on us with each new day; thankful for these words from Psalm 46:1-2: "God is our refuge and strength, a help in distresses, very readily found. Therefore will we not fear though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the heart of the seas." (DARBY); thankful for the memory jog reminding me to check that "Thanksgiving ...." had been posted (it wasn't!); thankful that D.D.s and D.S.s I.L are home and able to spend at least a few hours together before the younger couple heads back to Colorado; thankful for this reminder from 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 where it is written: "Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who comes from God and dwells inside of you? You do not own yourself. You have been purchased at a great price, so use your body to bring glory to God!" (VOICE); thankful for another Sabbath - the opportunity to remember the Creator on the day He calls His own; thankful for all the sites that offer worship, study, and praise on the inter-net; and I was thankful for this reading from the same passage in the Disciple's Literal New Testament: ". . . Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit in you, Whom you have from God? And you are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body." (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
