Thanksgiving V ~
5-11 August: This week, I was thankful for the old hymns playing in my brain - tunes that are rarely heard these days, like "Lift up the trumpet and loud let it ring, Jesus is coming again ...."; thankful for another sunshine-y mid-summer morning; thankful to our Father who has given wise counsel to all who will listen: "Your rules are marvelous. Therefore I observe them. Your instructions are a doorway through which light shines. They give insight to the untrained." (Psalm 119:129-130; NET); thankful to be back at home after a short stay in the hospital (not enough sodium in my blood caused muzzy-headedness and loopy legs); thankful to be back at home for the regular foot-care for the eldest D.D. and myself; thankful for the assurance found in Psalm 149:4 where it is written: "... The Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation and adorn the wretched with victory." (AMPC); thankful to again sleep in my own bed; thankful for the clearing brain that lets me make my morning prayers without a constant need to refocus; thankful for the reminder of these words from Jesus as recorded in Luke 12:6-7: "Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? Yet not one of them has [ever] been forgotten in the presence of God. Indeed the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid; you are far more valuable than many sparrows." (AMP); thankful for another new day of life and the promise of strength enough to meet its needs; thankful for the pleasant anticipation of the Sabbath hours; and thankful for these beautiful words from the forty-sixth Psalm: "God, you’re such a safe and powerful place to find refuge! You’re a proven help in time of trouble— more than enough and always available whenever I need you. So we will never fear even if every structure of support were to crumble away. We will not fear even when the earth quakes and shakes, moving mountains and casting them into the sea." (Psalm 46:1-2; TPT); thankful for a new Sabbath and for all the programming of study and worship services available via the internet; thankful for the fans that help circulate cool air through the house on these "dog-days of August"; and thankful as I consider these words from Psalm 119:13-16: "I’ll transfer to my lips all the counsel that comes from your mouth; I delight far more in what you tell me about living than in gathering a pile of riches. I ponder every morsel of wisdom from you, I attentively watch how you’ve done it. I relish everything you’ve told me of life, I won’t forget a word of it." (MSG).
